We reached out to Doug Davison, one of the principals of AKT, to ask him a few questions. Doug has been with the firm since 1984, and became a partner just six years later in 1990. As a firm partner for the past 21 years, Doug has been part of the driving force that has given AKT such a strong west coast regional presence, which has helped it to become ranked as one of the top 100 Accounting Firms by Accounting Today. Doug is an Oregon State graduate who is licensed as a CPA in four jurisdictions: Oregon, Alaska, Wyoming, and Guam.
1. After looking at the industries served by many other firms, it seems that serving nonprofit organizations is relatively rare. What led to AKT deciding to fulfill this need? How does this fit with the firm's overall ethic?
2. I'm fascinated by the idea of serving global and emerging businesses, and I'm sure our readers are as well. This seems vital since international commerce has become a key component to the success of so many businesses. Can you describe some of the unique challenges and rewards of serving emerging businesses?
